Learn
7 Years +
For those a little older, who already have a strong grasp of balance, coordination and agility off the bike but have yet to transfer these skills across to their bike riding and learn how to ride independently without the need for stabilisers.
In learn we aim to teach the fundamentals of bike riding in a more concentrated environment than our balance classes, we’ll teach them how to confidently & safely set off, come to a stop & pedal without any assistance at all.
Once they’ve mastered the basics, the natural progression from our learn classes is into Pedal, where they can show off their newly acquired skills to a larger group and have fun with even more friends.

For many children, the first steps toward riding a bike comes hot on the heels of their own first steps. So from 18 months, we'll be there to guide and support your little one as they get mobile on 2 wheels before eventually progressing to riding with pedals. At that point, they'll receive their Clancy Briggs Medal for Pedals a memento of this key milestone that they'll treasure for the rest of their lives. At the end of each class, we'll also recognise the achievement of one member of the class who has caught the eye of the coaches by giving one child the Champion of the Week. The Champion of the Week is awarded to a different rider each week and can be awarded for regular attendance and ongoing progress as well as the speedy acquisition of new skills.

Our race classes are for riders with a competitive edge. We focus on the skills that underpin racing success. Cornering, bunch riding, sprinting & tactical awareness are examples of the fundamentals included on a weekly basis.
The sessions include regular competition in the form of mini races or challenges, however the real focus is on skills development & personal improvement, not necessarily winning.
We nurture a strong team ethos where riders are encouraged to support each other’s development and create lasting friendships.
Ultimately in our race classes we aspire to create an enjoyable environment for competitive youngsters to experience and develop racing skills. It’s a doorway into the sport and the perfect place to hone your race craft.
This session is led by former professional racers, either (or both) Graham Briggs and Ali Slater – so riders will be able to benefit from their extensive first-hand experience and knowledge of the sport.

Race Masterclass
Riders will join one of our race coaches (Graham, Joey or Ali)
Our new Masterclass sessions will be comprised of all the elements needed for riders to succeed at a National level. We’ll leave no stone unturned with activities covering warmup protocols, cornering, sprinting, climbing/descending & race tactics just to name a few.
Additionally we’ll be taking the competitive scenarios to a new level, with coach led racing, bunch races & much much more in order to add a new dimension to the tactics required.
We’ll start off in the morning focusing mainly on improving our fundamental racing skills e.g. cornering, group riding etc. Then in the afternoon we’ll include the main coach led racing and put the skills we’ve learned earlier in the day to the test – don’t think the afternoon is all about racing though, in-between the competition we’ll continue the learning by including mini workshops on warmups, feedback, tactics etc.
Our ex-professional coaches will lead this session, so youngsters will get a chance to learn from some of the best. Spending the day with us means that children get to develop new racing skills, build further on their existing ones & explore all aspects of circuit racing.
Prerequisites -Road bikes are essential. Children must be Youth A/B category.
Our full day masterclass runs from 10:00 to 16:00, with a break for lunch in the middle (please bring packed lunch).
Activities will include:
Competitions / Races (individual and team)
Race skills, drills and tactics.
Group riding skills
The price is £50 for the full day.
Our complete team of fully qualified experienced, insured, First Aid trained & Enhanced DBS checked instructors will be on hand for your child's every need throughout the afternoon to ensure your child is happy, safe & having the time of their lives.
Children will need to bring with them the following:
Bike & Helmet
Gloves
Packed lunch & plenty of drinks and snacks - it's going to be an action-packed day and we can't emphasise strongly enough how important it will be to have plenty of hi-energy snacks to keep riders well fuelled!
Waterproofs and plenty of warm clothing (we’re encouraging all riders to bring a warm jacket and some tracksuit bottoms with them so they stay warm).

What do we get up to?
Our CX Masterclass is the ultimate day of cx skills and technique development.
You’ll spend the full day from 10am-4pm exploring all aspects of CX racing and developing your skillset. These sessions are aimed at those with a strong interest in CX racing and a cyclo-cross bike is highly recommended. A high level of fitness is essential. The morning session will focus on essential techniques training: starts, dismounting and remounting the bike, carrying the bike, cornering techniques, bunny-hops etc...everything you need to be a complete cx rider. We’ll break for lunch before the 2nd half of the day.
During the afternoon session you’ll be putting new techniques into practice with coach-led racing and games, using your new techniques under a little bit of pressure, whilst having fun.
What equipment is needed?
- Working CX bike & helmet – this doesn’t have to be a high-end model but must be of good quality suitable for advanced off-road terrain and in good working order. Helmets must of appropriate size/fit for the rider & must be in good condition (no cracks) If you’re not sure if your bike is sufficient then feel free to contact us on [email protected] & our coaches can advise you further.
- Packed lunch (with lots of high energy food)
- Spare innertube (that fits your bike or spare wheels)
- Warm clothing and waterproofs. You can’t have enough of these even if the weather looks great, we’ll be outside all day and once cold or wet it’s hard to warmup again. Spare clothing is important too, as if it’s wet we’ll have opportunity to put fresh kit on but we won’t stop the session due to rain.
- Plenty of snacks and drinks. Cycling is hard work, so lots of high energy snacks (bananas, flapjacks and jelly babies are popular) are important. Plenty of water/drinks.
Our complete team of fully qualified experienced, insured, First Aid trained & Enhanced DBS checked instructors will be on hand for your child's every need throughout the afternoon to ensure everyone is happy, safe & having the time of their lives.

Full day option available - For full day camp, book both the am & pm sessions in the same day. Bring a packed lunch & our coaches will look after your youngsters over lunchtime, before heading back on on the trails in the afternoon.
Location - The Fantastic Sherwood Pines - Edwinstowe, Mansfield NG21 9JL
Timings – select dates in August.
Suggested age - 6-14 (We’re cautious about using age as a guide for these sessions, as we’ve found ability is more important).
This session is comparable to our Pedal classes, we’ve found the longer Red session is tough for younger, less confident cyclists or riders with a lower level of fitness. The Blue class solves these problems, it’s the perfect environment to develop new off-road cycling skills and have a fun, enjoyable day.
Required ability - Riders must be able to ride unaided on off road terrain, confidently starting & stopping. To get the most out of the day it’s useful to be able to stand up on the pedals and cruise on uneven terrain.
What do we get up-to? Our Blue morning session is all about having fun on bikes. We’ll start off on a wide grassy area using our ramps and pieces of equipment to assess and build fundamental techniques. Riders will then progress out onto the trails. Starting with the pump track riders will begin to apply their skills to real world settings, we’ll move out onto the new sections of the Sherwood pines blue trail, where riders will experience steeper downhills, and sweeping berm turns. Along the way we’ll including plenty of skills games and mini challenges to keep riders entertained.
What sort of bike do I need? For our Blue group, you'll need a good quality MTB, suitable for riding over the rough terrain found at Sherwood Pines Red route trail & bike park area.
What other equipment is needed?
- Working bike & helmet – this doesn’t have to be a high-end model but must be of good quality suitable for advanced off-road terrain and in good working order. Helmets must of appropriate size/fit for the rider & must be in good condition (no cracks) If you’re not sure if your bike is sufficient then feel free to contact us on [email protected] & our coaches can advise you further.

- Gloves – cold hands are horrible. Crashing without gloves is also unpleasant.
- Sun cream (it’s always sunny in Sherwood)
Price - £32.50 (half day).

What do we get up-to?
Our red group is aimed at having fun on bikes & developing our technical skills. We’ll use our ramps and equipment to asses riders skills & develop them further. Before heading out onto the trails (red) and working on some of the technical sections. We’ll finally move onto the dirt jumps and bike park trails to develop some advanced techniques and have more fun. Led by our expert coaches, we'll use a mixture of the natural terrain, woodland & our ramps & kit to work on some key skills and develop off-road techniques. Think bunny-hops, manuals, wheelies, weight distribution, cornering, gear selection, starts, etc. Our ramps and see-saws are brilliant for testing out & the riders balance and weight distribution in a fun engaging way. We may also create some competitive scenarios and see how our skills stand up under the pressure of race conditions.
