Summer Cycling Camps

We can’t believe the next school holidays are the summer holidays, the first half of this year has absolutely flown by. We’ve got an action-packed summer of cycling planned, read on to find out more about our holiday camps this summer.

Sherwood Pines

Venue: Sherwood pines MTB, Edwinstowe, Mansfield NG21 9JL

Sherwood Pines is a brilliant, centrally located off road venue. The site has a mix of trails on offer, ranging from Green (beginner) through to Red (advanced) & don’t forget the bike park jumps and downhill tracks. It’s really got something for everyone, which is why we LOVE to coach from the venue. Throughout the summer we’re offering 2 types of camps running from Sherwood, our blue trail group & our Red trail group…

Blue Masterclass

Timings - This session runs from 10:00-16:00pm.

Suggested age - 6-16 (We’re cautious about using age as a guide for these sessions, as ability is more important)

Required skills - Riders must be able to ride a lap of Sherwood pines blue route, with adequate fitness to pedal up a short hill. To get the most out of the day it’s useful to be able to stand up on the pedals and cruise on uneven terrain.

What do we get up-to? Our Blue group is aimed at intermediate riders looking to develop their trail skills. The focus is on having fun, making friends and learning some key mtb techniques. We’ll use our ramps and equipment to learn some basic techniques, before progressing to the skills area pump track and finally heading out on the trails & testing our technique in the natural environment.

Can parents watch?
Due to the nature of the trails and coaching it's not possible for parents to stay with us for the whole day. We start the sessions on an open area close to the car park and parents are welcome to stay and watch us for this first part. Once we head out onto the trails parents don't accompny the group.
In the case of nervous youngsters you're welcome to bring them along 10mins early to the session, that way they can get to know the coaches while a familiar face is close by.

What equipment is needed?

·         Working bike – this doesn’t have to be a high-end model but must be of good quality suitable for advanced off-road terrain and in good working order. If you’re not sure if your bike is sufficient then feel free to contact us on [email protected] & our coaches can advise you further.

·         Packed lunch (with lots of high energy food)

·         Spare innertube (that fits your bike)

·         Warm clothing and waterproofs. You can’t have enough of these even if the weather looks great, we’ll be outside all day and once cold or wet it’s hard to warmup again.

·         Plenty of snacks and drinks. Cycling is hard work, so lots of high energy snacks (bananas, flapjacks and jelly babies are popular) are important. Plenty of water/drinks.

·         Gloves – cold hands are horrible. Crashing without gloves is also unpleasant.

·         Working bike + your helmet

·         Sun cream (it’s always sunny in Sherwood)

Red Masterclass

Timings - This session runs from 10:00-16:00pm.

Suggested age – 10-16 (We’re cautious about using age as a guide for these sessions, as we’ve found ability is more important)

Required skills – riders must be able to ride a lap of Sherwood pines red route, with sufficient fitness to tackle short steep climbs. Riders need to have a reasonable level of confidence on uneven terrain and be able to stand up on their bikes and cruise over uneven terrain.

What do we get up-to? Our red group is aimed at more confident riders, its all about having fun on bikes & developing our technical skills. We’ll use our ramps and equipment to asses riders’ skillset & check technique. Before heading out onto the trails (red) and working on some of the technical sections. We’ll finally move onto the dirt jumps and bike park trails to develop some advanced techniques and have more fun.

Doncaster Dome

Venue: Doncaster Dome Cycle Track, Bawtry Rd, Doncaster DN4 7PD

The Doncaster dome cycle track is the areas best closed-circuit cycle circuit, complete with cobbled climb! We think it’s the prefect location to hone road racing skills and build group riding confidence.

Circuit Race Masterclass

Timings - 10:00-16:00

Age range - 10-16

Price - £50

Required skills – all that’s is required is an interest in racing, a positive attitude and sufficient fitness to spend the day on the bikes. The riding will be broken up throughout the day, with skills drills and snack brakes so don’t worry about needing to be able to ride for 6 hours straight – we wont ask you to do that!

Our race masterclass session is the ultimate for young racers ages 10-16. sessions will be comprised of all the elements needed for riders to succeed at a National level. We’ll leave no stone unturned with activities covering warmup protocols, cornering, sprinting, climbing/descending & race tactics just to name a few. Additionally, we’ll be taking the competitive scenarios to a new level, with coach led racing. We’ll start off in the morning focusing mainly on improving our fundamental racing skills e.g. cornering, group riding etc. Then in the afternoon we’ll include the main coach led racing and put the skills we’ve learned earlier in the day to the test – don’t think the afternoon is all about racing though, in-between the competition we’ll continue the learning by including mini workshops on warmups, feedback, tactics etc.

Our ex-professional coaches will lead this session, so youngsters will get a chance to learn from some of the best. Spending the day with us means that children get to develop new racing skills, build further on their existing ones & explore all aspects of circuit racing.

What equipment is needed?

·         Working Road bike – double check your bike ahead of the day, nothing is worse than stopping the fun because of a mechanical.

·         Gloves/mitts – cold hands are horrible. Crashing without gloves is also unpleasant.

·         Working bike + your helmet

·         Sun cream.
